Brotherhood of Rust – Test miniature
The Brotherhood of Rust is my Warhammer 40000 Nurgle army. They started life as an Iron Warriors army, that most identifiably was implemented with nine Obliterators. Not as awesome an idea as I had originally thought.
I have some background worked out. The basic premise is the Iron Warriors, en route from their previous great victory, are visited by the Herald of Papa Nurgle and infested with all manor of disease and pestilence. This, of course, is befitting of the followers of the Plague Prince!
I found a few combos that seem to work and listed elsewhere on the site.
I am beginning to think that I will change this somewhat and only put in a couple of squads of Plague Marines and liberally apply the Mark of Nurgle across everyone who can have it. Missing from most of my lists is mobility, so this one will start to incorporate more transports. Rhinos, if nothing else, still serve to block lines of site and make dangerous or impassable terrain when they invariably get blown up!
However, after much debate and mixing of pallets I have my test scheme done. The original Iron Warriors were, as expected, Boltgun Metal base. I then gave the whole thing a Black or Armour Wash and then wet-brushed with Boltgun Metal and then Mithril Silver highlights.
The traditional chevron striping was used to (regrettably) mediocre effect.
With that in mind, I need to Nurgle them up a bit. I wanted it to be a bit more clean than normal Nurgle paintjobs.

As you can see in this slightly blurry photo, I have gone with the half-and-half paint scheme. The Iron Warriors part is the original scheme and the Nurgle half is Goblin Green, a Devlin Mud and Thrakka Green wash, then Goblin Green with Rotting Flesh added to it. Subsequent highlights add more Rotting Flesh to the mix to achieve lighter colours.
For the piping, I decided that purple would be a nice contrast against the green and have seen it used to good effect in the past. The base is Liche Purple, and highlights are Bleached Bone added to the base colour. Similarly, the Nurgle symbol on the shoulder pad is a chaotic mix of purple, and either Bleached Bone or Rotting Flesh. Before I go into production on this army, I’m going to have to try and remember the details of the mix!
Let me know what you think!
