Brotherhood of Rust - Test miniature part 2
Back in July I managed to bash this out: http://thegoldend6.com/article.php/20090922211012865 with some small success.
The original paint scheme was a decidedly more pastel colour than I would have liked. Sort of old school Nurgle.
I have been following an interesting thread on bolterandchainsword.com that bemoans the current state of the Chaos codex and the demise of the Legions. Whilst in agreement, I also realised is that the state of the current codex is more in the theme of renegades rather than the specific Traitor Legions of the past. So, it's still Chaos, just not quite as detailed as some of us fluff monkeys would like.
However, I digress.
I decided to redo the paint scheme for the Brotherhood of Rust. They're still Iron Warriors turning to Nurgle but I have gone for a more (I hope) current ethos Nurgle scheme. This one is a base of Gretchin Green, an old mix of brown and yellow ink to shade, retouch Gretchin Green then start highlighting Gretchin Green mixed with my new favourite highlighting colour, Rotting Flesh and Bleached Bone.
The trim is still Liche Purple base with Liche Purple and Bleached Bone highlights.
It was by pure chance that I discovered the magic of highlights with Bleached Bone. Rather than adding white to the base colour, the Bleached Bone or Rotting Flesh is a little less pronounced and if you have the chance, I can't recommend it enough.

The base is the old Goblin Green and flock (as I was taught MANY years ago) but I have more Back-to-Baseix and Iron Halo resin bases than I know what to do with. Once I have finished painting the twenty-eight or so marines (and their Rhino transports), the plan is to re-base the whole army on nice new, far more detailed resin bases. I'm still not sure about the whole display board trend that is sweeping the Melbourne wargame community, but if time and enthusiasm permit, I may do one to complete the project.
