WAY back in 1998 Warhammer 40000 3rd edition was released. In the core box set were two forces; Space Marines and a new race … the Dark Eldar. For the astute amongst us, that was nigh on twelve odd years ago! The “second edition” of the rule book was released in 2003, but the changes were not especially consequential. A long time ago, one of my fellow gamers started a new army; Dark Eldar. In a fit of over enthusiasm (similar to one that had me promised I could get a 1200 point Nurgle army done in the two months leading up to Arcanacon 2010), I inherited it because he was no longer interested in it! I remember well, those millennium of old. Where the Dark Eldar were a feared foe in the galaxy. My appearance on the battlefield would cause dismay and whole armies would crumble at the thought of facing such a fast and ruthless enemy. They’d whisper to me, my Agoniser poised for the decapitation, “who are you, that could move so fast and strike so quickly”. Marines, those slow moving clumsy shoe-box bound men, whose tactic was to drive very quickly and storm out of their rhinos, rapid firing and assaulting. My warriors were cannon fodder to their bolters, but who was to care, for it lured them into harms way and the precious wyches would pounce, appearing from over the horizon, sqealing with joy as they fell on the hapless marines, left flat footed.
A couple of years ago Mark McLaughlin, a tournament regular and all around nice bloke, died suddenly from heart problems. Arcanacon has taken up the Australian Heart Foundation as it's cause, and I think that it's a good 'un. So donate above, and do it often!
